First of all, if you are looking at this page then you are probably thinking of becoming a Muslim. Â
All Praise is to Allah, as He is the one that has guided you to The Truth. Please accept our very sincere congratulations. We pray that you become a strong Muslim and an excellent example and encouragement to others. Â
The act of becoming a Muslim could not be simpler: Â
Step 1 - Make the declaration of faith, known in Arabic as the shahadah. Â
Arabic is the language of the Holy Qur'an, and you will see below that the declaration has been transliterated to make it easier for you to say. The English translation is provided between the brackets. Â The declaration comprises of two parts and should be said as follows:
Â
Step 2 - Having made the declaration you should take a shower to purify your body, now that you have been spiritually cleansed by pronouncing the declaration of faith. Â
Step 3 - As a Muslim certain Islamic duties are now obligatory on you, but there is no need to feel scared or concerned about this. There are many brothers and sisters that will be keen to help you. Please contact us (see Contact IslamBradford for contact details) and we can put you in touch with other Muslims and give you details of Islamic Centres near to where you live so that you will have some support. Â
You may feel that there is a lot to learn, but please try not to be too daunted. Islam is a vast ocean of knowledge; it is a complete code of life, providing answers to all questions. You can gradually learn at your own pace. It obviously makes sense to begin by learning about those duties that are obligatory upon you, for example the daily prayers. Then, when you are able to perform these duties you can continue your quest for knowledge Keep in mind that you do not necessarily need to be proficient in an act before you perform it, it is totally permissible for you to perform your prayers from a book until you come to know the words and actions. Â
Please do not fall into the trap of thinking that you need to learn everything first before you become a Muslim. This could delay your entering Islam indefinitely. None of us can be sure when death will overtake us, so we are not in a position to presume that Allah will grant us enough life to put off making the move. As soon as a person recognises Islam as the true path then they should become Muslim straight away. They should then proceed afterwards to deepen their knowledge. Â Step 4 - Finally, don't forget to ask Allah to make you firm in your convictions. |
Our Book Recommendation
Dua: The Weapon of the Believers is an invaluable book (and CD) to have in ones library. This is (to the author's credit) the most comprehensive treatise to have been written on the subject in English in recent times. It is exceptionally lucid and remarkably accessible to the layman without compromising the depth with which it delves into the subject. |
