FASTING IN GENERAL Abu Umamah (radhiAllahu 'anhu) reported, "I came to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and said, "Order me to do a deed that will allow me to enter Paradise." He then said, "Stick to fasting, as there is no equivalent to it." Then I came to him again and he said, "Stick to fasting." [Ahmad, Nasa'i, Hakim]

1. Fast Ramadhan with belief and truly seeking the reward of Allah so that He may forgive you your past sins.
2. Beware of breaking your fast during the days of Ramadhan without a valid Islamic excuse, for it is from the greatest of sins.

Malcolm X (el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz) is an instantly recognisable figure. As an internationalist revolutionary, his images are as iconic as those of Che Guevara. Yet the people who seem to know the least about him are the most in need of him. On a superficial level, most Muslims know Malcolm X from T-shirts and slogans. But in the current climate of the "war on terror", and its consequent demonisation of Muslims, his struggle and vision could not be more relevant.

To what extent is Islam concerned with knowledge? Praise be to Allaah. Allaah created man and provided him with the tools for acquiring knowledge, namely hearing, sight and wisdom. Allaah The Most High says (interpretation of the meaning): "And Allah has brought you out from the wombs of your mothers while you know nothing. And He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts that you might give thanks (to Allah)" [al-Nahl 16:78]

An important matter for Muslims to realise is that da'wah is an obligation upon them. Allah (subhaanahu wa ta'aalaa) says in the Qur'aan: "Invite to the Way of your Lord (i.e. Islam) with wisdom and fair preaching, and argue with them in a way that is better. Truly, your Lord knows best who has gone astray from His Path, and He is the Best Aware of those who are guided." [al-Qur'aan, an-Nisaa'(16):125]
